Lotus Engine Repair and Rebuild
Lotus engine repair covers the supercharged 3.5-litre Toyota 2GR-FE V6 and the turbocharged 2.0-litre Mercedes-AMG M139 four-cylinder. Technicians handle head gasket renewal, timing chain service, coil pack replacement and Edelbrock 1740 supercharger rebuilds.
Both engines run on 98 RON fuel. Abu Dhabi stations sell Special 95 alongside Super 98, and repeated 95 RON fills on a supercharged V6 trigger knock retard that surfaces as reduced power under load.

Lotus Transmission and Gearbox Repair
Three gearboxes serve the sports car range: the Aisin EA60 six-speed manual, the Aisin six-speed IPS automatic, and the Mercedes-AMG Speedshift 8G dual-clutch unit. Repair scope spans shift cable adjustment, synchro replacement, valve body service and DCT clutch pack calibration.
The 8G-DCT runs a wet clutch pack that sheds heat into its own oil circuit. Stop-start traffic on Corniche Road at 45°C ambient raises that oil temperature faster than open-road driving, which shortens the practical fluid change interval.

Lotus Suspension Overhaul
Forged double wishbones sit at all four corners of the Emira, Evora, Exige and Elise. Work covers ball joint replacement, wishbone bush pressing, Bilstein monotube damper renewal, Eibach spring fitting and Nitron three-way damper rebuilds.
Concrete expansion joints on Sheikh Zayed Bridge load the front wishbone bushes on every crossing. Bush wear on a mid-engined chassis appears first as steering wander above 100 km/h rather than as an audible knock.

Lotus Brake Pad and Disc Replacement
AP Racing four-piston front callipers and two-piece J-hook discs serve the Emira, Exige and Evora ranges. The team fits pads, refaces or replaces discs, rebuilds callipers, and flushes fluid to a dry boiling point above 300°C.
Yas Marina Circuit track days push pad face temperature past road compound limits. A fluid flush before and after a session prevents the longer pedal travel that follows moisture absorption in DOT 4 fluid.

Lotus Composite Body Work
Composite construction defines the outer panels across the sports car range, from the Elise front and rear clamshells to the Emira outer skins. Repair uses laminate resin, glass matting and structural bonding instead of panel beating.
Clamshells attach with threaded fasteners, which allows full removal for chassis access. Multi-storey car park ramps across Abu Dhabi scrape front splitters and lower clam edges, and those contact points crack the laminate beneath the gelcoat.

Lotus Paint Refinishing
Refinishing on composite panels runs at lower bake temperatures than steel bodywork to protect the laminate structure. The booth matches factory finishes including Hethel Yellow, Nimbus Grey and Seneca Blue.
Ultraviolet load in Abu Dhabi fades solid reds and yellows ahead of metallic finishes. Panel blending across a clamshell joint keeps the repaired area invisible against sun-aged adjacent panels.

Lotus Dent and Panel Damage Repair
Dent repair on composite bodywork uses laminate crack repair, not paintless dent removal. Glass reinforced plastic flexes and cracks instead of denting, so rod and suction techniques designed for steel produce no result.
Car park door strikes at Marina Mall and Yas Mall leave stress cracks hidden under the paint film. Technicians tap-test the panel to map the cracked area before grinding back to sound laminate.

Lotus Air Conditioning Repair
Climate system repair covers compressor replacement, condenser cleaning, evaporator service and refrigerant pipe renewal. Elise and Exige models route low-pressure refrigerant pipes through the sills, which makes leak tracing a chassis-access job rather than an engine bay job.
Ambient temperatures above 45°C in Mussafah hold the condenser at maximum load. Sand packed into front-mounted condenser fins cuts heat rejection and appears as weak cabin cooling at idle with normal cooling at speed.

Lotus Diagnostics and Fault Code Reading
Diagnostics run on the TechCentre platform, which replaced the earlier Scan III tool and reads engine, ABS, airbag, TPMS and transmission modules. J2534 pass-through hardware handles ECU reflashing on Toyota-engined cars.
Amber spanner-light faults on 2012 to 2022 cars store codes outside the standard EOBD set. Reading those codes directly removes the parts-swapping approach common at general workshops in the industrial area.

Lotus Cooling System Service
Lotus cooling work addresses the long coolant runs between the front-mounted radiator and the mid-mounted engine. Scope covers radiator replacement, sill coolant pipe inspection, header tank repair and coolant renewal at the four-year interval.
Radiator fins on an Elise sit close to road level and collect sand at speed. Fin blockage on a 45°C day raises coolant temperature during idle and low-speed traffic rather than during motorway driving.

Lotus Supercharger and Forced Induction Service
Forced induction service splits across two systems: the Edelbrock 1740 roots-type supercharger on the 3.5-litre V6 and the twin-scroll turbocharger on the AMG M139. Scope covers rotor pack rebuilds, intercooler core cleaning, boost leak testing and charge pipe replacement.
Charge air temperature climbs once ambient passes 40°C. Mussafah industrial dust settles into intercooler cores and reduces charge cooling efficiency, which a core flush restores.

Lotus Clutch Replacement
Clutch replacement covers the EA60 six-speed manual in the Emira and Evora and the Toyota C64 six-speed manual in Elise and Exige models. The job includes flywheel inspection, release bearing renewal and full hydraulic circuit bleeding.
Traffic density on Mussafah Industrial Road raises clutch slip cycles per kilometre. Slip cycles, not distance, drive friction material wear on a car under 1,500 kg.

Lotus Wheel Alignment and Corner Balancing
Alignment sets camber, caster, toe and corner weights against factory Tour or Sport chassis specifications. Corner balancing carries weight on a 1,405 kg car, where a 10 kg cross-corner imbalance shifts handling measurably.
Kerbing on Abu Dhabi roundabouts moves rear toe settings before front settings. Rear toe error on a mid-engined chassis produces corner-exit instability ahead of any visible tyre wear.

Lotus High-Voltage EV Battery and Motor Service
Lotus high-voltage service covers the 800V architecture on the Eletre and Emeya, including 112 kWh and 102 kWh packs, dual permanent magnet motors, and the two-speed transmission fitted to 900-series cars. Certified technicians isolate the pack before any repair begins.
Battery thermal management works harder in Abu Dhabi than in European ambient conditions. Coolant loop and chiller inspection keeps DC charging near the 350 kW and 400 kW peaks these platforms support.

The facility
Inside Our Modern Lotus Workshop in Mussafah
The Mussafah facility operates dedicated bays for mechanical repair, composite bodywork, refinishing and high-voltage electric work. Separate bays keep composite dust away from open paint and away from exposed battery assemblies.
Equipment includes the TechCentre diagnostic platform, J2534 pass-through reflashing hardware, a four-pad corner-weight scale system, and a low-bake spray booth calibrated for composite panels. The alignment rig accepts wheelbases from 2,300 mm to 3,100 mm, which covers the Elise through to the Eletre.
Two-post lifts rated to 4.5 tonnes carry the full model range, including the 2,690 kg Eletre. Ground clearance ramps allow safe loading of cars with front splitters under 120 mm of clearance.

FAQs About Lotus Repair in Abu Dhabi
Which Engines Power Current Lotus Sports Cars?
Two engines power the Emira range. The supercharged 3.5-litre Toyota 2GR-FE V6 produces 400 hp with an Edelbrock 1740 supercharger, and the turbocharged 2.0-litre Mercedes-AMG M139 four-cylinder produces 360 hp. Earlier Elise and Exige models use Toyota 1ZR, 2ZR and 2ZZ four-cylinder units.
How Often Does a Lotus Emira Require Servicing?
Factory servicing falls due every 10,000 miles or 12 months. Engine oil and filter renewal happens annually, air filters and brake fluid change every two years, and coolant, transmission oil, spark plugs and drive belt change every four years.
Are Composite Body Panels Repairable Without Replacement?
Yes, the workshop repairs composite panels through laminate reconstruction. Glass reinforced plastic cracks rather than dents, so technicians grind back to sound material, rebuild the area with resin and glass matting, then refinish. Replacement applies only where cracking crosses a structural mounting point.
What Diagnostic Platform Does Lotus Repair Require?
The TechCentre platform provides full module coverage, replacing the earlier Scan III system. It reads engine, ABS, airbag, TPMS and automatic transmission modules, including manufacturer-specific spanner-light codes. Generic OBD2 scanners read standard EOBD codes only and miss the manufacturer-specific set.
Does the Workshop Service the Electric Eletre and Emeya?
Yes, the workshop services both electric models. Certified high-voltage technicians handle the 800V architecture, 112 kWh and 102 kWh battery packs, dual permanent magnet motors, active air suspension with Continuous Damping Control, and the two-speed transmission fitted to 900-series cars.
Which Fuel Grade Suits a Supercharged Lotus V6 in the UAE?
Super 98 suits the supercharged 3.5-litre V6 and the turbocharged M139. Special 95 causes the engine control unit to apply knock retard, which reduces power output under load and raises combustion temperatures in Abu Dhabi ambient conditions.
What Causes the Amber Spanner Light on a Lotus?
The amber spanner light signals a stored fault outside the standard emissions code set. Common triggers include coil pack failure, throttle position sensor drift, coolant temperature sensor faults and gearbox module errors. TechCentre access retrieves the exact code and freeze frame data.
Does Exotic Auto Services Collect a Car from Across Abu Dhabi?
Yes, the workshop collects and returns cars across Abu Dhabi, including Al Reem Island, Khalifa City, Saadiyat Island, Al Raha Beach and Al Bateen. Free pickup and drop off applies to owners holding an active service contract.
