Oil Leak Repair in Abu Dhabi: What the Job Involves
The part that stops an oil leak usually costs very little. What you are paying for is finding which one it is, and then reaching it. That is why two oil leaks can differ in price by a factor of ten.

What this guide covers
Step One Is Always Tracing
Oil escapes under pressure onto a hot engine and then runs, drips and gets blown backwards by airflow.
Where it lands on the floor is frequently nowhere near where it left the engine, which is why replacing the nearest gasket to the puddle is such an expensive way to guess.
How we trace it
- Inspect on the ramp with the car in the air and good lighting.
- Degrease the suspected area so the trail resets.
- Add UV dye to the oil where the source is not obvious.
- Run the engine, or return the car to you for a few days, depending on the leak rate.
- Inspect under UV light, which shows the origin unambiguously.
That process costs a fraction of one wrongly replaced gasket.
Please do not steam clean the engine before bringing it in. The oil trail is the evidence, and a clean engine means waiting for the leak to reappear before anything can be traced.
What Repairs Cost
| Repair | Typical of | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Minor gasket repair | Cam cover gasket, solenoid seals, accessible joints | AED 500 to 1,000 |
| Sump gasket replacement | Sump pan gasket, sump removal | AED 800 to 1,800 |
| Sump plug seal | A washer, often the whole answer | Nominal |
| Filter housing or cooler seals | Plastic housings that have warped | Varies by engine |
| Crankshaft rear main seal | Cheap part, gearbox removal | Labour-led, quoted after inspection |
The gap between the top and bottom of that table is almost entirely access. The gaskets themselves are inexpensive.
Exotic Auto Services quotes after tracing rather than before, because a number given without knowing the source is not a quote.
What You Can Reasonably Do Yourself
There is a sensible line here, and it is not where the internet usually draws it.
Worth doing
- Identify the fluid by colour and position.
- Check and monitor the oil level so you know your rate.
- Lay cardboard overnight to confirm it is your car and where it drips.
- Check the sump plug and filter are tight if the leak appeared right after a service.
Not worth attempting
- Working under a car on a jack. Oil leak work means time under the vehicle, and a jack is not a support.
- Replacing gaskets on a hot engine. Burns are the most common injury in this work.
- Over-tightening to stop a leak. This warps covers and cracks plastic housings, turning a gasket into a housing.
- Sealant instead of a gasket. It fails, and the debris can block oil passages.
The honest position is that identifying is a reasonable owner job and repairing generally is not, because almost all of it needs the car properly in the air.
Why Stop-Leak Additives Are a Bad Trade
They do work, in a narrow sense. They swell rubber seals so a hardened one presses against its surfaces again.
The problem is that they cannot choose which seals to swell. Every seal in the engine is affected, including the ones that were fine.
They also mask the leak rather than fix it, so the gasket continues to degrade with no visible warning.
As a way to get a car to a workshop, acceptable. As a repair, it is borrowing against the rest of the engine.
Making the Repair Hold
The most frustrating outcome is a leak that returns weeks after it was fixed, and there are usually three reasons.
- The crankcase ventilation was blocked. Pressure inside the engine pushes oil past the new gasket exactly as it did the old one. Always checked.
- The wrong source was repaired. The visible oil was not the origin. Tracing prevents this.
- The mating surface was not prepared. A new gasket on a surface with old sealant on it will leak.

Booking It In
If you know your leak rate, bring that with you. It is genuinely useful information.
Exotic Auto Services traces the source, tells you what access the repair actually needs and quotes against that rather than against the symptom.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does oil leak repair cost in Abu Dhabi?
A minor gasket repair such as a cam cover runs AED 500 to AED 1,000, and a sump gasket replacement AED 800 to AED 1,800. Sometimes it is just the sump plug washer, which is nominal. The wide range is access rather than parts: a rear main seal is an inexpensive component sitting behind the gearbox.
How do you find where an oil leak is coming from?
By tracing rather than guessing. The area is degreased so the trail resets, UV dye is added to the oil where the source is unclear, and the engine is run before inspecting under UV light. Oil travels once it escapes, so where it drips is often nowhere near where it left the engine.
Can I fix an oil leak myself?
You can identify one, monitor the level and check that the sump plug and filter are tight if the leak followed a service. Actually replacing gaskets is a different matter: it needs the car properly supported for extended periods and often a cold engine and specific torque settings, which is why it is workshop work rather than driveway work.
Do stop-leak additives actually work?
In a narrow sense yes, by swelling rubber seals so a hardened one seals again. The problem is they cannot choose which seals to affect, so every seal in the engine is swollen including the healthy ones, and the underlying gasket keeps degrading unseen. Acceptable to move a car, not a repair.
Why did my oil leak come back after it was repaired?
Usually one of three reasons: a blocked crankcase ventilation system pushing oil past the new gasket, the wrong source having been repaired because the visible oil was not the origin, or the mating surface not being properly prepared before the new gasket went on. All three are avoidable.
